New York City based menswear fashion designer John Varvatos presented his John Varvatos "2.0" Fall Winter 2018 collection on Friday January 26th. The fashion show took place inside the Angel Orensanz Foundation at 172 Norfolk Street, located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. The collection featured 47 looks that are both modern and masculine. The fashion show was an early kick off to New York Fashion Week: Men's Fall Winter 2018. Everything from knitted hats, scarves, coats, sweaters, pants, socks and footwear were designed by the brand.
Mr. Varvatos sought to juxtapose competing themes throughout the collection such as combining the ideas of strong foundations with fluid free movement. In many examples chunky, attractive footwear is paired with soft turtlenecks or cashmere sweaters; wide-leg pants are matched with slim fitting bomber jackets. Layering and a lot of skilled treatment by hand to leathers and suede are also distinctive aspects to these garments. A man can easily design his entire Fall Winter wardrobe from this collection alone, if he can afford it.
The set for the fashion show, designed by Tinsel & Twine had intricate arrangements of tree branches and roots hanging from the walls and above the crowd. Some of the VIP guests in attendance included musicians the Jonas Brothers, Country music singer Thomas Rhett, rapper Iggy Azalea and many others. At the end of the runway show the designer and models stood together on a stage with their right hand over their hearts, as an electronic guitar rendition of the Star Spangled Banner by Javier Peral played.
